Three artists with different backgrounds and artistic practices come together in the format of SAAL 3 vol. 3 to perform three short performances. The trio of SAAL3 vol. 3 consists of choreographer and performance artist Lisette-Marie Viilup, musician and sound artist Lauri Lest and well-known engineer-artist Andrus Aaslaid. The dynamic trio was chosen by performative artist and director Maike Lond, this time in the position of curator.
The curatorial concept for this edition of SAAL3 was Kanuti Gildi SAAL´s main hall itself — a hall with gothic windows that has been repeatedly covered with thick curtains, upholstered chairs, or micro-precision-calibrated speakers. In collaboration with artists, the curator gave the hall its own unique sound and voice to speak. With a similar mission, the SAAL3 Vol 3 production will travel to Genialistide klubi in Tartu — a cultural hub where people can sing along with their favorite rock bands or dance through the night at a rave. A place that has served the performative arts for decades.
SAAL3 is a format created by the artistic directors of Kanuti Gildi SAAL. It provides opportunities to try out new ideas, leading to both successes and failures. SAAL3 vol 3 is the third production in the series and the first with a curator from outside the production house.
