Katrīna’s residency at Kanuti Gildi Saal is the continuation of her artistic research which delves into queer tango as an attempt to liberate the body of binary categorisations of gender, class, and identity. In her ongoing project, Queer Tango Club, Katrīna together with a group of dance-enthusiasts aim to (re)discover Argentine tango through their own lens of acceptance, respect, cooperation, and non-sexualized eroticism. While rehearsing the dance steps, the group also envisions queer futurities and social structures that transcend current norms and limitations placed on all bodies. After the first work-in-progress presentation at Homo Novus festival in Riga this September, Katrīna will be sharing her methodology with the local community in Tallinn at TantsuRUUM, and continuing research for a solo work at Kanuti Gildi SAAL.
