What happens inside an improviser's mind is normally invisible to the audience: the split-second choices, the impulses followed or discarded, the moments of doubt. This show brings it all into the open.

The Supreme Art of Improvisation is a solo performance in which Caspar Schjelbred improvises from seemingly nothing and narrates the hidden mechanics as they happen. The audience watches creation in real time and hears the decision-making underneath it.

Each mechanism is named in a single sentence, then proved live on stage. The audience is invited to test one core exercise from their seats – and discovers that the mechanism works for them too.

Caspar Schjelbred is a Danish performer, improviser, and teacher based in Copenhagen. A pioneer of improvised theatre in Paris, where he worked for over 20 years, he has performed and taught across four continents. His work sits at the intersection of theatre, physical comedy, and improvisation. He was described by Festival Impro en Seine (Paris) as "une des sommités de notre art" – one of the leading figures in the art of improvisation. He is currently developing solo performance work exploring the hidden mechanics of the improvising mind.
